The Father

Knutsford Little Theatre proudly presents The Father, a powerful and deeply moving play by Florian Zeller, opening this season under the debut direction of Tom Irvine.

Winner of multiple awards, including the Molière Award for Best Play, The Father is a modern classic that explores the heartbreaking and disorienting world of old age through the eyes of André, a proud man whose grasp on reality begins to slip away. Zeller’s masterful writing, combined with a clever and unsettling staging structure, invites the audience to experience confusion, tenderness, laughter and loss in equal measure — a journey that is at once gripping and profoundly human.

Tom Irvine brings fresh vision, ideas and sensitivity to this production utilising the tech skills of the Theatre production team- guiding the audience through a story that is both intimate and universal. Audiences can expect an evening of thought-provoking theatre that lingers long after the final curtain.

Don’t miss this summer production a gripping exploration of memory, identity, and love.

Reasons for helping bring their roles to the stage

“Having witnessed my mother’s dementia, I was especially drawn to the formidable challenge of portraying Andre’s struggle.”

“I was attracted to this play because of the great  writing and the sensitive way it depicts dementia”

“I was really keen to be involved in this production as I think the subject matter strikes a chord with many of us. It also explores empathy and compassion at a time when the world could do with a bit more of that. But mainly I got involved as Tom offered to buy us beers at rehearsal!

“This was an excellent opportunity to play a straight part in a thought provoking drame on a very real topic”

“Cheryl made me do it”

“ As dementia is the Uk’s biggist killer, we all know  somebody that has been affected.  I think it’s important to tell this story to spread awareness and address misconceptions and stigma that often comes with a diagnosis”

“Being able to bring this amazing piece of writing alive on stage was my motivation for joing ‘The Father’ cast. It’s been a wonderful experience from the first rehearsal to the performance you see in front of you.”
